How Is the Food of the Future Grown?
We have been focusing on health for a longer time, and three years ago we discovered the forgotten superfood – TIGERNUT. Tigernut is a tuber that is completely allergen-free and offers numerous health benefits for the body.
This ingredient was used for its healing properties as far back as ancient Egypt and is still cultivated in Africa today. However, under those local conditions, tigernuts are often hard, less nutritious, and may contain undesirable substances due to uncontrolled farming practices.
In the 18th century, tigernuts began to be cultivated in Spain, in the region north of Valencia. Their organic farming (so-called "green agriculture") is monitored by the Chufa de Valencia council. This council grants certifications to farmers, confirming that tigernuts labeled with this designation of origin are guaranteed to come from organic and fair-trade farming.
We searched for growers in Spain and found the very best: a family-owned company that has been growing and processing tigernuts for three generations. They cultivate tigernuts in organic quality. To provide the highest quality, we have the tigernuts peeled, making them softer, tastier, and nutritionally richer.
The quality of peeled tigernuts from Valencia allowed us to experiment with different recipes, and eventually, we created several lines of unique healthy tigernut-based products that are globally unique.
How tigernuts are grown:
1. Growing organic tigernuts is very demanding. No chemical pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers are used.
2. The plant needs a lot of sunlight, and as it matures, it forms underground tigernut tubers.
3. The harvest is done depending on the weather, usually in late autumn or even winter.
4. The tubers are thoroughly washed of soil and roots in multiple washing lines.
5. The tigernuts are moved to natural drying chambers, where they are aerated and turned daily.
